MCLI Program Director Needa Bee Speaks at Commonwealth Club on the Homeless Crisis
On Wednesday, February 13, 2018, Program Director Anita Miralle de Asis (Needa Bee) of the Meiklejohn Civil Liberties Institute (MCLI) spoke at the Commonwealth Club alongside other non-profit leaders.
MCLI is excited that Needa Bee has provided such powerful leadership and movement building in efforts to fight the abuse of unhoused community members in the San Francisco Bay Area. This mistreatment of the homeless constitutes a human rights crisis in the Bay Area as well as in communities throughout the United States.
MCLI will continue the fight for the human rights of landless people in the United States at the local, state, federal, and international levels. In addition to Needa Bee’s work on the ground in Oakland, MCLI is facilitating the Policy Committee of the National Lawyers Guild Far West for advocacy with California state leaders. Further, MCLI recently submitted a report to the Human Rights Committee which included a report on the human rights abuses targeting the homeless.
